Logie Love

When Hi-5's Kathleen de Leon, 28, met Daniel Jones, 32, of Savage Garden fame through a mutual friend at the Logie Awards in 2000, sparks immediately flew. "I'd never really followed his band that much, but had heard his beautiful music," says Kathleen, who was certain she wouldn't see the musician again so posed for a photograph with him. "We had said our goodbyes, but to my surprise we stayed chatting and dancing until the wee hours!"

Engaging Moment

A surprise 30th birthday party for Daniel turned out to be a much bigger surprise for Kathleen. "During Daniel's speech, he pulled out a ring box, opened it up and this flashing ring was inside," Kathleen says, explaining the real ring came later. "After what seemed like an eternity, I screamed out 'Yes' and our friends all cheered!"

Dress To Impress

"I envisaged the dress I wanted and Bora of Bora Couture, who specialises in hand beading, knew exactly what it was," Kathleen says. "A friend from New York, Chi, who creates 'diamonds in pearls' designed a stunning pearl set for the back of my gown and diamond pieces for the front."

"I'd tried to trick Daniel on what the dress looked like right up until the day of the wedding. He said he never imagined anything so lovely."

A Dream Theme

The busy couple enlisted the expertise of wedding stationers and stylists Angels Dreaming, as well as Nightingales' wedding co-ordinator Kathy Apostolidis who created a stunning Oriental-meets-Balinese theme for the big day. "We wanted something that was unmistakably us," Kathleen says. "We love the Asian influences that surround our home and our life, and we wanted something that was elegant, fun and full of warm fuzzies. The orchids were incredibly elegant, strong and beautiful, as were the Asian candles, bamboo plants, the little love-heart sugars that sat on the tables for tea and coffee, the beautiful wooden table lanterns and all the pink lanterns hanging on the trees outside."

May I Have This Dance?

Besides employing planners, Kathleen and Daniel also had a big hand in their wedding waltz preparations. "We had moments on our precious weekends where we'd sit and nut out all our wishes for things we wanted to include – we also spent weekends working out our bridal waltz. We flew up my choreographer and friend Cameron Mitchell to help us with our dance," Kathleen says. "If we didn't have a moment to rehearse on the weekend, we'd wake up at 4am on a Monday before I'd fly out to Sydney and have a few sleepy goes. We had many laughs as we stood on each others toes."

Music Maker

Daniel used his musical talents to pen a song for his bride. "He wrote me a song called 'Love is Enough'," Kathleen says. "I wasn't allowed in the studio for days. I didn't know what he was up to until finally, after recording it, he got me into the studio to hear the final song. I cried my eyes out."
