Screen Sirens
After meeting on the set of TV show All Saints in January 2006, actress Alex Davies, 30, and camerman Justin (Jay) Hanrahan, 35, hit it off straight away. "We quickly became friends," recalls Alex. "And later when I realised he was single we became, well, more." Two years later, Jay organised a special dinner at Sydney's Guilliame at Bennelong restaurant at the Opera House and proposed. "It was the best surprise I've ever been given and think I ever will," she says.
Flower Power
Over the next few months, Alex and her mother Marlyn Robertson started planning the special day to be held at the family holiday house in country NSW. They called on the expert advice of event stylist Rouba Alamein of Angels Dreaming to help pull the look of the wedding together. Rouba made sure Alex's favourite flower, frangipani, was featured heavily throughout the day: as part of the invitations, table centrepieces, marquee decorations and bouquets. "When Jay and I first started dating, he gave me a frangipani plant on Valentine's Day so it was important for us to have it as our theme flower for the wedding," say Alex.
Party People
Many of the 90 guests came up to the property four days prior to the wedding to see in the New Year with the happy couple. "By the time the wedding came around, everyone was in fine form and chatting to each other like old pals." Unbeknownst to Alex, cameraman Jay had called in a favour in the week prior to the wedding and filmed Guy Sebastian singing "their song": Craig David's Unbelievable, playing it back for their bridal waltz. "It was quite simply, unbelievable!"
"As I came into view, everyone started cheering for me like I was at a rock concert. Then they were crying and the energy blew me away! I wish I could have bottled it."
